Requirements#
The current native package targets Windows 10 / 11 on x64. It includes the .NET runtime, Node service and FFmpeg. Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime must be available for the interface; a separate .NET SDK is only needed if you build from source.
Download the Windows setup installer. The main website download buttons now supply the installer; the portable ZIP is available as an alternative below.
Install with Windows Setup#
- Download Windows Setup.exe from the official website. Your browser downloads the setup package, checks its contents and prepares the installer automatically.
- Finish any active recording and quit an older HydroClips release from the tray.
- Run HydroClips-Setup-2.0.7.exe from Downloads. The default installation folder is
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\HydroClipsNative. - Open HydroClips from the desktop or Start menu and follow First-run setup.
- Choose a recording folder, sound sources and quality. Run the optional ten-second recording test and play the resulting MP4.
If your browser blocks the automatic save, select Save Setup.exe on the download page. The setup ZIP is a fallback for browsers that cannot prepare the installer: download it, extract the single EXE, then run it.
Open the portable package#
The portable package is optional. Download the portable ZIP if you prefer using an extracted folder.
- Extract
HydroClips-Native-2.0.7.zipinto a regular local folder. - Open
HydroClips.exefrom that extracted folder. - Keep
bin, dist, backend.cjsand the executable together. Running only the EXE or running from inside the ZIP will not provide the complete application. - If the interface cannot start, check WebView2 Runtime before trying another extraction.
Update from an older release#
Open Recording health & updates → Updates in the app. HydroClips reads the release feed at https://hydroclips.com/releases/latest.json and compares the installed version with the official release. Startup also checks once and shows a notification when a newer version exists.
Select Download Setup.exe to open the official website. Finish your recordings and quit the old app before running setup. Settings and recordings are preserved; the app does not execute an installer automatically. If the check fails while offline, the Updates panel reports that it could not check rather than saying you are current.
Build from source#
Use a .NET 10 SDK and the locked npm dependencies. From the desktop source folder:
npm ci
npm run typecheck
./scripts/package-native.ps1 -OutputDirectory 'C:\build\HydroClips'Pass -NsisPath with your NSIS compiler path to also create an installer. This is a developer build step; it is not required to run the portable release.
